The Gerry Thornton Bursary
We are very excited to announce a very special collaboration – the first of its kind – between Dulwich College and Alleyn’s: The Gerry Thornton and Andy Wilson Bursaries.
Gerry Thornton devoted 31 years of his career here at the College between 1955-1986 as Assistant Master, Housemaster of Ivyholme, Master in charge of Cricket and teacher of English Literature. The Thornton and Wilson families have a long connection to the Foundation schools, beginning with Gerry Thornton’s time as a Master at Dulwich College, through his sons James’ and Damian’s period as pupils and his daughter Emma at JAGS, and continuing with their own children attending Dulwich and Alleyn’s.
These bursaries are funded by the Thornton and Wilson families in celebration of the lives of their late father Gerry Thornton and Emma’s late husband, Andy and will provide funding for free places in each school for talented children from the Camberwell and surrounding areas. If you would like to support this initiative in memory of Gerry Thornton and his exemplary service to this school, please donate through the form below.
A Legacy of Opportunity
“We can’t think of a more fitting tribute to the memories of our father and Andy than to create awards in their names that will benefit local children now and in the future.” James Thornton OA (1967-75), Emma Wilson, and Damian Thornton OA (1976-80)
