On Monday 9 October the U9 A and B teams attended the Eaton Square School 6-a-side Tournament at Battersea Park. The A team tournament was split into three groups of 6 teams, with the B team tournament consisting of two groups of 4.
The A team played some attractive attacking football and in each game their performance increased. All of the boys looked to learn in each game and progressed throughout the day. Strong group game performances saw the boys reach the playoff finals remaining unbeaten and having won every game they played.
Vs Dolphin School – Won 3-1
Vs Thomas’ Fulham – Won 7-2
Vs Knightsbridge School – Won 4-0
Vs Orchard House School – Won 7-2
Vs Westminster Under School – Won 4-1
1st Place Playoff Results:
Vs Hornsby House – Won 3-1
Vs Newton Prep – Won 5-0
The A team qualified for the 1st place playoff with the two other group winners Hornsby House and Newton Prep. In their first playoff game the boys pressed and won the ball off of Hornsby House high up the pitch and were clinical in front of goal scored two goals early on. As the game settled down both sides scored one each to leave the final score at 3-1 to Dulwich. In their final playoff game the boys knew another victory would see them crowned champions and they went out immediately and played at a quick pace looking to win the ball and play forward whenever possible. This worked and once again the Dulwich boys were confident in front of goal scoring five goals without reply. These victories meant that over the whole tournament the Dulwich A team scored an impressive 33 goals and conceded only 7 and were deservedly crowned champions.
The B team got better as the day went on, understanding how to move the ball down the pitch gaining more and more success in each game. A fantastic final group game performance saw the boys draw with Hurlingham who had won both of their previous games. The boys showed a high level of skill and determination to take the lead and were only just pegged back in the final stages. It was brilliant to see the B team players start to use more positional play and increase their game understanding as they grew in confidence throughout the tournament.
Vs Eaton House The Manor – Drew 0-0
Vs Westminster Under School – Lost 0-1
Vs Hurlingham School – Drew 1-1.
The B team finished 3rd in their group missing out on qualification to the knockout stages with the top two from each group progressing.
Well done to all Year 4 boys who represented the college. It was fantastic to see the boys all progress throughout the day and put in better performances in every game they played.
