After much anticipation, many welcomes and a vibrant opening ceremony, the pupils from the Dulwich International Schools finally had the opportunity to take part in some sporting competition. Rugby is not part of the diet for many of the international students, so an opportunity to combine schools, age groups and genders was taken with a brilliant afternoon of mixed tag rugby. The sun shone brightly across the hallowed turf as 16 teams demonstrated the very characteristics that embody a Dulwich education and as outlined by the Master, Dr Spence, in his opening ceremony address. Congratulations must be extended to all who took part, but especially to team Japan who went through the whole tournament without losing a game. However, the results played second fiddle today; that will come later in the week. Here friendships were forged, pupils worked extremely hard, but most of all, they smiled and had an exciting afternoon. The Olympiad is well and truly underway with the Athletics starting in earnest tomorrow, and there is a firm feeling that the torch is now London’s to carry.
