Year 9 language and activities trip to Mallorca 2024

During the final week of the holidays, 40 Year 9 students spent five days and nights enjoying Spanish culture and sun just outside Palma, Mallorca. The visit was an opportunity primarily to improve their Spanish but also to have a chance to get to know the beautiful Balearic island.

Each morning started with Spanish lessons led by experienced local Spanish teachers. Lessons were entertaining and informative, helping the boys develop their understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary but also their knowledge of Spanish culture and history.

Afternoon activities and excursions were varied, and gave the boys a chance to see different parts of the island. The first was a visit to Katmandu amusement park in the suburbs of Palma. The following day we took a train ride through the centre of the island, through luscious orange and lemon groves, to the picturesque town of Soller. From here we took a tram to Port Soller, where the boys were able to enjoy some free time, having adeptly ordered their ice creams at a well-known heladería.

On the third afternoon we took a short coach ride to the go-karting track at Magaluf, where the boys were able to pitch their driving skills against each other and against the clock. The weather all week was beautiful, and after afternoon excursions we enjoyed football and beach volleyball sessions on the Playa de Palma. Wednesday was paintballing on two exciting outdoor arenas in Lloseta, towards the centre of the island. After paintballing we all headed into Palma city centre to explore some of the main historic sights on a guided tour, followed by some free time for shopping or tapas.

The trip was a huge success, and fulfilled the dual purposes of improving the boys’ Spanish while also ensuring a rewarding, action-packed and busy time with friends.
