The Dulwich Olympiad 2024

The Dulwich Olympiad 2024

134 students from Dulwich College and JAGS joined 757 students from 12 schools for the Dulwich Olympiad 2024 in Singapore; a week-long celebration of sport, drama, music, and art and design events. This quadrennial gathering fosters cross-cultural connections and friendships and reinforces the family spirit we enjoy across our international community.

Art & Design

Students take part in Art workshop

The Art & Design teams started the week with exploratory walks around Singapore, seeking inspiration from the local architecture, local artist studios and the National Gallery. This was followed by a series of specialist workshops and culminated in a fantastic exhibition of student’s creations. Delicate and detailed silver rings and necklaces were on display next to square screen prints with intricate embroidery. Four giant canvases created with Rippleroot dominated one whole wall, and bespoke hoodies with personalised embroidery stood between handmade sneakers, a multitude of paintings and copper pipe twisted lamps. The number of creations produced in three and a half days was a testament to the talent and passion of the students involved!

Performing Arts

Drama students perform The Odyssey

Our Drama students spent the week preparing for the collaborative performance of the reimagined classic tale The Odyssey. It was a captivating and powerful turn of innovative theatre, masterfully weaving together a fusion of cultural influences and diverse styles that had the audience on edge for the entire performance.

Sports

Football match at Dulwich College Singapore campus

Throughout the week, 610 athletes brought a spirited vibe to the Dulwich College Singapore (DCSG) campus with swimmers, badminton players, basketball and football teams, battling it out in the pool, sports halls and fields.

A highlight of the week was the day spent at the Home of Athletics, located in the shadow of the National Stadium, Kallang. It was fantastic to watch the athletes excelling in the individual disciplines and the schools come head-to-head for some fierce but sportsman-like competition.

Throughout all the events, students were recognised for their Determination, Courage, Gracious spirit and high Skill levels (DCSG)

Music

Students and teacher music rehearsal

Our talented artists kicked off the week with a London Music Showcase. They pulled together a diverse repertoire that catered to everyone’s musical tastes with saxophone ensembles, combined orchestras, and a string quartet. The Combined Orchestra performed a beautiful rendition of The Ash Garden to close the performance.

Next came a musical collaboration with DCSG and the talent showcased was mesmerising.

The final performance of the week, pulled together 43 musicians for the Gala Concert. Guest conductors flew in from the UK and the USA. The rich and intoxicating sound of a full orchestra and the choir brought tears to the eyes as the audience listened to classics such as TaReKiTa by Reena Esmail, Mars & Jupiter by Holst and, to finish, the Vaughn Williams classic Let All The World in Every Corner Sing.

2027

An incredible time was had by all. Many described it as “the best week of their life.” We all now look forward eagerly to the Dulwich Olympiad 2027; a joint collaboration between Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi and Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong.
