Dulwich College honoured with two prestigious awards

Dulwich College is delighted to have been chosen by School House Awards 2025 as winners in the two categories of Social Mobility Champion and Local Partnerships & Community Champion. It is a privilege to be acknowledged in such a competitive field.

Lucy Cleland, one of the five judges, said that for the Local Partnerships & Community Champion award, the school impressed in how it 'mobilises its entire community in a coordinated act of service that delivers measurable benefit to local schools and charities', citing as an example the 2025 annual Dulwich Service Day. This initiative saw over 850 senior school pupils and more than 150 staff volunteer with 53 community projects, which included food banks, environmental schemes, care homes, youth clubs and state primary and special schools.

“We are thrilled that the College has been recognised for its commitment to service and partnership, reflecting Edward Alleyn’s founding vision of 1619. Both pupils and staff are dedicated to building meaningful connections with the local community. Our Service Day alone last June saw over 800 pupils and 150 staff volunteering across more than 50 local projects” said Mrs Jenny Stanley, Acting Deputy Master External.

As winner of the Social Mobility Champion award (sponsored and judged by Christ’s Hospital School), Dulwich College demonstrated significant commitment to social mobility both in the scale of its bursary provision and breadth of educational partnerships.

'What is encouraging is that Dulwich College is growing the number of its bursary recipients at a time when many schools are cutting their support for disadvantaged pupils,' said Hugo Middlemas, Christ's Hospital's director of development. 'Its story is one of truly serving the community of London, deeply engaging with schools across the city to identify young people who could benefit from a transformative Dulwich education, as well as representing the rich diversity of the London population.'

Over £5.5m has been awarded this year by Dulwich College to support 222 bursaries. Our ethos is rooted in widening access, making a Dulwich College education available to boys regardless of financial means, for the benefit of the wider Dulwich community and beyond.

Dr Nick Black, Director of Admissions and Communications, said of the awards “Being a school of access has been an important feature of the College for over a century. Education is the essential mechanism by which we can create social mobility and everyone in the Dulwich College Community is delighted by this award which reflects our long-term commitment to maintain Dulwich's position as a school to which any bright boy can aspire”
