The annual Winter Concert was given at St John’s Smith Square on Tuesday 28 November. The College Symphony Orchestra, Wind Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Orchestra, Alan Morgan Chamber Orchestra, Madrigal and Chapel Choirs all performed with some 350 boys involved in the concert altogether. The concert was given to a capacity audience who heard music by Alexander L’Estrange, Percy Grainger, Mozart, Alexander Campkin and Mussorgsky. The programme also included performances of two brand new compositions. De Profundis (Night Raid) has been written for the College by Cecilia McDowall, the College’s Visiting Composer, with text by the Master, Dr Joseph Spence. De Profundis (Night Raid) received its world premiere at St Thomas’s Church Fifth Avenue, New York during the Music Department’s Easter tour to the US – the performance by the Chapel Choir at St John’s Smith Square was the UK premiere. Momentum was written for String Orchestra by Thomas Hewitt Jones, OA. This work was premiered at the concert and performed by the combined Chamber and Alan Morgan Chamber Orchestras – Miss Lesley Larkum and Mr Neil Clarke conducted.
Congratulations to all the boys who took part in this memorable occasion.
