Our two major school events of the season are The English Schools Cross Country Cup, which takes us up to the Christmas break, with the London Schools Cross Country Championships leading into The English Schools Championships in the Lent term. The 2017-18 season has been the most successful for many years with these two major goals being no exception.
The English Schools Cross Country Cup - Both our Junior and Intermediate teams enjoyed hugely successful area and regional rounds to ensure both age groups made the National Final for the first time ever. We have enjoyed one or other age group progressing to the final stage before, but never both. At the final in Sevenoaks both ran superbly with the Intermediates running to nineteenth nationally. However, it was our Junior team who excelled this year, running superbly in the final to finish fifth nationally.
Intermediate team (pictured above) - Toby Evans, Luke Stevens-Cox, Nicholas Richard-Castro, Bruno Ceccollini, William Sachs, Oliver Hector.
Junior team (photo below) - Matteo Russo, Finbar Percy, Christo Chilton, Joe Prince, Joe English, Zac Crowther.
London Schools Cross Country Championships - Based on the success of our Juniors on the National stage, we were invited to enter two teams into this year's Junior A competition. These were ably backed up by a strong Junior B, Intermediate and Senior Dulwich College teams. I am delighted to report that our Junior A 1st team, Junior B, Intermediate and Senior teams all won their age categories, affording us our first ever London Schools Championships clean sweep. In addition our Junior A 2nd team ran exceptionally to finish third team in London. I am also delighted that no fewer than 11 Dulwich runners received London representative invite letters. I relish the chance to go and watch seven of these, who have already had their places confirmed on the London team, run at this year's English Schools Cross Country Championships in Leeds on Saturday 17 March. For the last five years we have only had two or three selected. The top ten individual finishes are listed below.
Junior B Team - Christo Chilton (individual gold), Zac Crowther (individual bronze), Charlie Woods, Alex Jack, Ben Turner (6th place), Theo Ladure (8th place).
Junior A 1st Team - Joe Prince, Finbar Percy, Billy Morris (7th place), Elliott Cox, Dan Davies, Oliver Hector (10th place).
Junior A 2nd Team - Joe English, Zach Carr, Harry Seward, Matteo Russo, Leo Coiro, Harry Corkum.
Intermediate Team - Bruno Ceccollini, Toby Evans (8th place), Luke Stevens-Cox (9th place), Aiken Furlong, Ned Craddock, William Sachs.
Senior Team - Chris Ho (4th place), David Lubbock, Luke Pye, Conor McIvor (7th place).
We now look forward to the closing section of our season which sees us in the Borough Championships Pathway and Road Racing events.
