2021 Half Term Athletics Report

Despite missing the entire 2020 season to the pandemic, the DC athletes have returned to competing with fantastic camaraderie and enthusiasm.

Our Year 10 and Year 12 boys opened the season at the Guy Butler Shield in Harrow where the stand out performances came from Nathan Firla in the 400m (53.3s), Alex Jack running a PB in the 800m and the victory for the 4x400m relay team of Oliver Hector, Jamie Anderson, Billy Morris and Maxim Ladoshin.

The Year 9s joined us for our trip to Tonbridge where the terrible weather made the following performances all the more impressive. Noah Ridgeon won the 300m, Antoine Andrews the Shotput and Theo Ladure set a personal best of over 40m in the Javelin.

The DC team made their first ever visit to Lord Wandsworth College and the beautiful grass track and scenery was worth the journey. Our Year 12’s led by example with PBs in the Triple Jump from Jamie Anderson and Teddy Cunliffe and a powerful 200m victory for Jasper Richardson on his debut for DC. Performance of the day though went to James Lumeh-Kamara in Year 9 with a long jump of 6.06m.

Our Year 7 and 8s have been out in huge numbers to midweek training and it was great to see them put their practice to good use at meets hosted by RGS Guildford and Brentwood School. Alex Wilson, Warren Wilson, Joshua Maguire and Matthieu Ladure have ran excellent middle distance times whilst Oliver Bond and Adam Storey have shown great promise in the triple jump.

The Combined Events at Lee Valley is always a true test of an all round athlete and Orson Matthews, Joshua Maguire, Noah Ridgeon and Michael Ijeh enjoyed the gruelling day in the Juniors. Matthew Corkum, Theo Ladure, Quentin Myers and Nathan Firla gave everything they had in The Intermediates. Noah Ridgeon was the outstanding performance as he finished 1st in London, but he will be joined by Theo, Nathan and Tristan Saunders in competing at the regional round later in June.

I hope the boys enjoy a week of rest for half term and well done to the following boys who have achieved the standards to compete at London Schools at Battersea Park on Saturday 12 June:
