The 3rd Dulwich College Piano Festival took place on Thursday 9 May in the Old Library. ‘Studies’ was the theme of this year’s Festival and over 60 boys from Year 3 to Year 13 performed in three concerts, all displaying sensitivity and virtuosity. Burgmüller, Czerny and Heller were the most popular composers but we also heard some outstanding studies by Chopin, Liszt, Albeniz, Rachmaninov, Farrenc and many others. It was great to listen to so many pianists play with a solid technical command, as well as producing some beautiful sounds and shapes on our Steinway B piano. A hugely enjoyable event and we are already looking forward to next year’s Festival, which will feature piano duets as well as some exciting compositions for piano six-hands and eight-hands.
