Visiting Composer - Cecilia McDowall
Dulwich College is honoured to have award-winning British composer Cecilia McDowall as our Visiting Composer. Cecilia often comes to the College to provide one-to-one supervision to students at GCSE and A Level, and to deliver insightful talks on the art of composition.
She composed the choral work Some corner of a foreign field for the College. It was premiered at the Spring Concert at King’s College Chapel on 25 March 2015 by Dulwich College Chorus, Madrigal Choir, & Concert Orchestra, with James Oxley, tenor, and Richard Mayo, conductor, and subsequently performed on our USA tour in 2017. The central section of the work sets a ‘versioning’ of E.A.Wodehouse’s (OA) poem, ‘Before Ginchy: September 1916’ by the Master of Dulwich College, Dr Joseph Spence.
