Foundation Schools Junior Concert

On Friday 27 May, the boys from Junior Wind Band and part of Purcell Strings went to JAGS to take part in the inaugural Foundation Schools Junior Concert, a joint music project with JAGS and Alleyn’s. It was a big day of music making starting with sectional rehearsals for our first piece, Fanfare and Fireworks by Brian Balmages. We spent time in our orchestra sections learning this music before the whole orchestra came together in the Vaughan Williams Auditorium for a full rehearsal. It was a rather magical experience hearing 90 Junior School children playing together for the first time and certainly produced some goosebump moments. We then followed the same process with our second piece, Danger Zone, from Top Gun and improved our sight-reading by playing through Radetzky March by Johann Strauss.

During the evening concert, each school had also prepared two pieces to play which meant there was a large range of repertoire to be heard. It was a very special occasion with some incredibly high-quality music being played and we were very fortunate to be playing in such a fantastic concert space. A huge well done to all the pupils who took part for their hard work and commitment.
