On Sunday 1 March 50 of our Jazz musicians performed to a sold out audience at the Hideaway Jazz Club, Streatham. The concert started with the Jazz Group, directed by Mr Tom Millar, who performed five jazz standards including Afro Blue and Footprints - beautiful improvised solos from all members of the band. Two vocal groups were next - The Light Blues and the Alleynian Blues. The Light Blues were in fine voice as they sang repertoire ranging from The Beatles to Adele, a highlight had to be Short People. The Alleynian Blues were smart, slick and stylish as they weaved their way through an exciting set which included 900 Miles, Attention and Isn't She Lovely. The Other Big Band took to the stage and performed two songs Ain't Misbehavin' and All the Things You Are with style and panache before the Big Band closed the set with some classic, swinging big band charts, notably Brass Machine featuring Christian Bertrand, Big Swing Face featuring Bobby Han and William Good and Things Ain't What They Used to Be. The Big Band had three vocalists - Tom Giles, Charlie Humphries and Oliver Storey - and they entertained the audience with A Foggy Day, L-O-V-E, Sway and You Make Me Feel So Young.
