School Meals
The cost of school lunches is included in the Junior School fees. There is a fantastic choice of food at Dulwich. Every day there is a selection of hot dishes, including a vegetarian option, pasta, jacket potatoes, soup and a well-stocked salad bar on offer. There is also a range of small desserts, which always includes fresh fruit.
In Years 3 and 4, the boys’ plates are checked to ensure that they have selected a balanced lunch. This is supported by discussion in Science and Wellbeing to ensure that the boys know about the different food groups and why each is essential. The boys eat lunch in their year groups with their teachers, who promote good table manners and make sure the boys are remembering to eat their lunch as well as chatting with their friends. In Years 5 and 6, the boys are given a little more independence and freedom in their lunch choices, with form teachers sitting nearby and reminding boys to consider their knowledge of a balanced meal as appropriate.
The menu is published on the website in advance, which enables parents to discuss the following day’s options with their sons, and taster plates are available if boys would like to try a new dish before making a decision. All our meals are freshly prepared each day. Food is sourced from ethical suppliers and prepared to the highest standards. The meat served to pupils at Dulwich College is of UK origin, reared and slaughtered to meet all current RSPCA welfare standards. Halal meat is available to those students requesting it.
Pupils sit on the College Catering Committee which meets regularly with the catering team to review the menus and facilities.

- Student Responsibility: Students are encouraged to visit the Security Lodge directly if they have lost something, where they can ask the Site Officers to check the log.
- Periodic Checks: Form Tutors and secretaries will review the log weekly or fortnightly to identify any named, unclaimed items and remind students to check with the Security Lodge if necessary.
- Storage Period: Named items will be held for up to 8 weeks, and unnamed items for 12 weeks, after which they will be donated to the Nearly New Shop or disposed of.

Dulwich College Parkrunners
In 2017 we launched Dulwich College Parkrunners to help promote running as a healthy lifestyle choice and to link together members of the College Community (boys, parents, OAs and staff) to get out and run at the weekends. For those who are unaware, parkrun is a global charity that organises timed runs in parks across the world at weekends. It is free to join and free to participate forever.
Currently there are over 1000 events in the UK, over 150 000 people are doing it each weekend and over three million people signed up across the world. Local to Dulwich we have numerous parks that people can go to for the 5km runs at 9am on Saturdays (e.g. Dulwich, Brockwell, Crystal Palace, Clapham Common, Peckham Rye, Bromley, Tooting Common - see parkrun UK Events map). Anyone can enter - old, young, beginner or serious runner. People run, jog or walk. It doesn’t matter. It is crucial to remember to use the parkrun slogans - ‘run not a race’ and ‘participation not pace’. So you really are only competing against yourself. All you do it register on the website and print your barcode. Then turn up at any of the locations, start the race, collect your pre-printed barcode at the end, have it scanned (together with your personal barcode) and then away you go. All done before 10am and then you receive a text/email with links to the website. Week-on-week you can see how you do. You can be a parkrun tourist and visit different parks, and even when you are on holiday take the opportunity to visit one in an exotic location in 20 countries (see parkrun countries website). In addition, there are 2km Junior parkruns that take place on Sunday mornings which are ideal for children age 4 to 14 years (e.g. Crystal Palace, Brockwell, Beckenham Place, Wimbledon Park – see parkrun Junior events map).
We have registered Dulwich College Parkrunners as a club and the idea is that anyone connected to the College (boys, parents, OAs or staff) can change their profile to make this their club. All those who do this will be linked together and see each week how other members of the community are getting on; where they have run, personal bests, different milestones completed (10, 50, 100 runs etc). Initially we want to see how this takes off and if we can grow this community to then consider further events or ways of bringing people together. We try to gather the DC Parkrunners on a regular basis but annually, every Founder’s Day at the end of the summer term, we have a large gathering of our community (current pupils, families, staff and OAs) at Dulwich Park for a big get together.
If you are new to parkrun have a look at any of the links above and then go to the registration page to sign up.
To join the Dulwich College Parkrunners please complete this online form. We will add you to the list and send you a verification email. This will confirm that you are a member of the College community, that you have been added to our database and also tell you about our GDPR policy. If you are applying to join on behalf of your children then please give us their names and date of birth. As we mentioned above, we are happy for siblings to join too. All adults must fill in separate forms. Once you receive that email then go into your parkrun settings and add Dulwich College Parkrunners as your affiliated club.
Remember it is completely free! See you out parkrunning soon. If you have any queries contact me via junior.school@dulwich.org.uk
