OAs in Print - Eastern Reproaches

Congratulations to Tony Barber (71–77) on the publication of his first novel, Eastern Reproaches. 

Set in Communist Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union during the 1980s, amidst secret police harassment, food shortages, persecution of friends, colleagues and entire societies, Francis Merriman, a British foreign correspondent in his early twenties, finds precious spaces of love and fulfilment that help him to endure the harsh realities of life behind the Iron Curtain.

Tony edited the College’s magazine and played for the First XI cricket team while at school. After studying Modern History at St John’s College, Oxford, he went on to a distinguished career in journalism, serving as a foreign correspondent for Reuters, The Independent and the Financial Times, where he was also Europe Editor and a columnist on international affairs.

Eastern Reproaches draws on the world Tony knew first-hand through his years reporting from across the region.
