Boys Sail Training Week 2026

The Boys Sail Training Week is an annual trip run in collaboration between Dulwich College and the Alleynian Sailing Society (run by Alumni of Dulwich College). The week sees a group of Dulwich students spend the week with experienced sailors teaching them how to sail.

This year the week ran 2 July- 7 July. The boys assembled at Port Hamble Marina with an evening sail on Southampton water so the boys could get used to being on a boat. Friday was a longer sail to Yarmouth Harbour, with different boats taking different courses to get there.

Saturday saw the fleet sailing independently with a couple of the yachts trying to make the Needles against a very strong Spring tide. 

On Sunday the fleet headed back east to Gosport and in the afternoon they went to see the Mary Rose, which no matter how many times one has seen it, is still very impressive.

Monday was the ‘Pursuit’ challenge, a course set from Osbourne Bay, round different buoys and finishing in Cowes for the Last Night Supper at the Island Sailing Club.

On Tuesday the fleet returned to Hamble with Skips and crews all extolling what a great bunch of boys had joined us this year.

The weather throughout the week was glorious, bright sunshine with winds steadily building during the day, and on one afternoon, gusting 34 knots, quite a week.

Thanks to Alastair Capon, his last BSTW as Commodore, the Skippers; Richard Sainsbury, Nick Fenner, and two newbie skips, Ben Taffs and George Hill. Crews; Ollie Davidson, Saverio Jones, Theo Gurnhill, Michele Littleboy and Anthony Frankford plus from the College Victoria Goldsack and William Scaldwell.
