Conrad Manning OA (2009-2011) Naval Architect, sailor and passionate about inspiring future engineers through sailing.
At the tender age of fourteen and with sailing in his blood, Conrad was sufficiently inspired by a talk given by yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur to declare to his family that he wanted to sail around the world. It is an ambition that still burns brightly and today he talks to Trevor Llewelyn about his life in sailing both on and off the water.
After two years at Dulwich, Conrad studied Ship Science and Naval Architecture at Southampton University before taking up a role as a junior designer at the highly respected Ker Yacht Design. He now splits his time between developing professionally as a naval architect, honing skills on the water and engaging with the next generation of engineers. However, sailing solo around the world, non-stop and unassisted, on 60ft racing yachts in the Vendée Globe is still his ultimate ambition!
