The Economics of TV shows from the University of Oxford

The Economics Society’s remote provision continued with a visit from Dr Alex Teytelboym OA, Lecturer of Economics from the University of Oxford. Alex treated the students from Year 9 to Year 13, including the new Year 11s, to a highly entertaining dissection of many of their favourite TV shows, using undergraduate Economics as an analytical tool. He expertly used Game Theory to describe contestants’ choices in game shows including Golden Balls, Dragons’ Den and Love Island. His light-hearted delivery was underpinned by some excellent economic analysis which allowed for a fantastic lecture, enjoyed by all. This was a real treat of an introduction to further Economics and will have given all who attended a great head-start in their pursuit of higher education. We would like to thank Alex very much for being so generous with his time and for delivering another excellent and accessible talk.
