Religious Studies
The Junior School has an enquiry based approach to Religious Studies and Christianity is taught in every year group alongside other World Religions. Through enquiry the boys develop a knowledge and understanding of religious faiths from which boys are encouraged to recognise and celebrate the diversities which exist within and between communities and amongst individuals. The investigative approach promotes a forum of honest, respectful discussion where boys’ critical thinking skills are developed and empathy with people and their beliefs, religious or otherwise encouraged.
Assemblies within the Junior School are regularly used to explore moral themes and to celebrate religious festivals whilst we welcome eminent speakers on religious themes.
Philosophy
In Years 3 and 4 Philosophy is taught alongside Religious Studies. Stories, interactive clips and games are used to encourage critical thinking and discussion on a variety of topics. For example, ‘What do you need to make you happy?’ ‘What makes you you?’
