Modern Languages
All Junior School boys have one period of French per week, taught by specialists from the Modern Languages Department. We aim to develop not only linguistic competence but also a good understanding of French culture.
Throughout the Junior School we develop boys’ confidence in and enjoyment of the French language. All four key skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing are covered though a varied, entertaining and thorough curriculum. Boys enjoy learning the language through songs, games, pictures, role plays and French films.
All boys sit the externally assessed AQA FCSE (Foundation Certificate in Secondary Education) examination when they are ready. We are also trialing the highly regarded DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) primary examination. By the end of Year 6, boys are amply prepared and full of enthusiasm for continuing their French studies in the Lower School.
