Physical Education & Games

Inclusion, participation, and enjoyment are the core principles of the Dulwich College “sport for all” ethos. Pupils are offered a wide range of opportunities to discover new skills, develop physical literacy, and cultivate values such as determination, leadership, perseverance, and teamwork. 

Curriculum and Lessons

All pupils have timetabled PE and Games lessons each week, including use of the College’s swimming pool. Lessons are led by specialist staff and are designed to complement each other, ensuring pupils acquire fundamental movement skills and the techniques needed for a variety of sports. Swimming lessons focus on stroke improvement, endurance, and speed, while PE lessons develop locomotor, stability, and athletics skills. In addition to the timetabled lessons, there are numerous opportunities for co-curricular sporting activities that take full advantage of the superb facilities offered by the College. 

Fixtures and Events 

During Games lessons, the greatest possible opportunity is provided for all boys to represent the College at football, rugby and cricket. Competitive fixtures are played against other schools at these sports and more, such as swimming, water polo, hockey and tennis. We also compete at national and regional events. Within the school, we hold House competitions in a broad range sports.

Physical Education and Games in the Junior School provides all boys, regardless of their ability, with a strong foundation and prepares the boys for their sporting journey as they move up through the College.
