Modern Languages

All Junior School boys have one period of French per week, taught by specialists from the Modern Languages Department. The curriculum aims to develop both linguistic competence and a strong understanding of French culture.

French learning

Throughout the Junior School, pupils build confidence and enjoyment in learning French. Lessons are engaging and varied, covering all four key skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Pupils experience the language through songs, games, pictures, role plays, and French films, making lessons both entertaining and thorough while fostering a lasting interest in languages.

WolloW

Our popular WalloW (World of languages, languages of the World) programme is much enjoyed by pupils and further enhances their language learning. WalloW forms one unit of work during languages lessons in each year group and exposes pupils to a huge diversity of both modern and ancient languages from across the world. It also allowed pupils to share and celebrate any additional languages they speak with their families, and teach their peers too.
