Art & Design Technology

Art and Design & Technology in the Junior School inspire creativity, imagination and problem-solving. In their weekly lessons, pupils explore a wide range of skills and techniques, guided by subject specialists in dedicated studios and workshops.

Creative Curriculum

The Art and DT curriculum builds on the national framework but is extended to provide broader subject knowledge and adapted to suit the academic profile of our pupils. Projects take inspiration from a wide range of artists, exhibitions or design challenges – covering a broad range of styles and skills. Regular visits to Galleries and Museums further enhance learning in these subjects, including Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Tate Britain, and the Design Museum.

Skills and techniques

Every pupil keeps a sketchbook in Art to record progress and achievements. Across the Junior School, boys develop skills in drawing, painting, printing, weaving, collage, felt-making, plaster and clay.

In Design & Technology, pupils learn to investigate, plan, design and make, working with materials such as wood, metal, plastics and textiles. As they progress, pupils move from hand tools to small, powered tools, gaining confidence and safe workshop practice.
