Day Houses

We are much indebted to the Friends of Dulwich College who regularly provide grants for these clubs. Recently, the Dulwich Mechanic society was given a generous grant to help purchase resources it needed to found the society.

A House for life

Every boy (whether day boy or boarder) is allocated to one of the eight Houses, becoming a member ‘for life’ under the guidance of their Housemaster. Brothers, sons and grandsons follow each other into the same House, a tradition which encourages a fierce but healthy loyalty. The House system also supports the pastoral care of the boys by ensuring that each of them identifies with a smaller, “vertical” community, made up of boys in every Year group from Year 3 to Year 13, within the wider College community.

Inter-House Competitions

There are inter-House competitions in numerous sports and cultural activities including Music, Drama, Art, Chess and Debating, and House Colours are awarded for achievement in House activities.

The Houses compete annually for the honour of winning the Wilson Cup named after F.R.F. Wilson Esq. who was Master in Charge of Games and the House system for many years. He taught at the College from 1970 to 2000.

The Steve Hoyle Cup is awarded at the Sixth Form final assembly to the Upper School House which is positioned first overall. Dr Steve Hoyle taught at the College from 1981 to 2011.
