Overseas Applicants

We welcome applications from boys who are at school overseas for day or boarding places. Boys can apply for day places for Years 3, 5, 7, 9 and 12. Boarding places are available for Years 9 and 12 with a small number of boarding places available for Year 10.

We are happy to arrange individual visits in term time for our overseas applicants. Please contact the relevant admissions teams to make an appointment.

Registration for candidates outside the UK seeking entry to Dulwich College for both day and boarding should complete an Overseas Registration form. The overseas registration deadline for Years 3, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 for September 2025 entry is 27 September 2024.

Entrance and examination procedures differ slightly for each year group.

Years 3 and 5

Boys applying for Year 3 or Year 5 places will follow the similar entrance procedures and timetable as those boys in the UK, please see Years 3 and 5 entry information. Our expectation would be that families will bring their son to Dulwich College for the entrance assessments if they live in Europe. Testing for boys living in other parts of the world will be held at either their nearest British Council office, a Dulwich College International school, a Dulwich College approved testing centre or where this is not an option we can arrange the assessments by Zoom. The assessments will take place as soon after the UK assessment dates as possible.

Year 4 places are not available.

Candidates should complete a Years 3-10 Overseas Registration Form if they will be sitting the exam overseas and the registration fee is £350. They should complete a Year 3 and 5 Registration Form if they will be coming to Dulwich College to sit the entrance examinations on the specified exam dates.

Online registration

Registration for candidates outside the UK seeking entry to Dulwich College in September 2025 and who will be sitting the examinations overseas is open.

The registration fee for Overseas Applicants is £350 and is non-refundable.

To complete the online registration form you will need the following:

Your son’s passport or birth certificate
A recent photograph of your son
Your son’s most recent academic school report
Educational Psychologist report (if applicable)
Details of any medical condition indicating examination concessions
A debit or credit card to pay the non-refundable registration fee

To complete a new registration form please select 'Add New Applicant'. If you are re-applying for the same son please do not edit his 'past application', instead select 'Add New Applicant'.

Overseas Boarding Applications

Most boarders join in Year 9 with a smaller number of places available for joining in Year 10. Entrance examinations for boarders at school outside the UK are generally held in mid October to early November each year. Testing can be arranged after this if places are available.

The Entrance Examinations for boarding applicants from Hong Kong will be held in Hong Kong on Sunday 20 October 2024 and in other countries at a similar date and by individual arrangement with applicants. Registered applicants will be notified of the dates and venues.

Overseas testing for candidates in other locations will take place at the nearest British Council office, a Dulwich College International school or a Dulwich College approved testing centre. Arrangements will be made through the Admissions office and any local administration costs would be covered by the candidate’s family.

Year 9 and 10 Overseas boarding applicants will sit examinations in Mathematics, English and Reasoning Tests.

Overseas Boarding Applicants at school in the UK

Overseas boarding applicants who are at school in the UK and are applying for Year 9 entry in 2025 will be invited to Dulwich College to sit the examinations on January 11, 2025. Boarding candidates who are at school in the UK and are applying for Year 10 entry in 2025, please contact the Registrars’ Office at the.registrar@dulwich.org.uk

Overseas Day Place Applicants

Boys applying for Year 7 or Year 9 day places will follow the similar entrance procedures and timetable as those boys in the UK (Please see Year 7 entry and Year 9 Late Entry information in the Admissions section of the website. Candidates applying for Year 9 who are at school overseas cannot be considered for the Deferred Entry exams when they are in Year 6. This entry route is only open for candidates at UK prep schools. Our expectation would be that families will bring their son to Dulwich College for the entrance examination if they live in Europe. Testing for boys living in other parts of the world will be held at either their nearest British Council office, a Dulwich College International school or a Dulwich College approved testing centre. We can arrange interviews by Zoom. The exams will take place as soon after the UK exam date as possible. For Year 7 entry the UK exam date is Friday 6 December, 2024 and for Year 9 entry the UK exam date is Saturday 11 January, 2025.

Year 10 day places are not available.

Overseas boarding applicants who are at school in the UK and are applying for Year 12 entry in 2025 will be invited to Dulwich College to sit the examinations on Saturday 9 November 2024.

Overseas Day Place Applicants

There are a very limited number of day places available at Year 12 entry. Applicants will be considered on a case by case basis and should first contact the Upper School Registrar. Those applying for day places will follow similar entrance procedures and the timetable as those boys in the UK.

Our expectation is that overseas applicants living in Europe will attend Dulwich College for the day place Entrance Examinations on Saturday 4 January 2025. Testing for applicants living in other parts of the world will be held at either their nearest British Council office, a Dulwich College International school or a Dulwich College approved testing centre as soon after 4 January 2025 as possible. Arrangements will be made through the Upper School Admissions office and any local administration costs would be covered by the applicant’s family. Registered applicants will be notified of the dates and venues.

The Entrance Examinations and Interview

Year 12 overseas applicants will sit written examinations in the three subjects they wish to study at A level, and an English as an Additional Language paper, where English is not the First Language. Subject choice is important and applicants are advised to consider the Upper School Curriculum Guide carefully, and contact the Upper School Registrar to discuss their A level options and future plans. Applicants who perform strongly in the examinations will be shortlisted for interview, which may be conducted online.
