Community and Charity
In response to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, pupils, parents, alumni and staff at the College have come together to provide support to those in our community, as well as to raise money for local and national charities. Please explore this section to find out more about what we have been doing.
PPE
DT teachers and pupils are producing PPE (personal protection equipment) using our 3D printers, making over 150 full-face visors every day for health workers across London. In addition, more than 500 pairs of goggles and visors have been distributed to NHS organisations from the Science faculty. Find out more.
Community Action
During the Easter break Chaplain Reverend Tim Buckler posted 60 cards that had been made by young Alleynians as part of our community outreach for local care homes and the Dulwich Almshouse.
Pupils are signing up to a summer Community Action programme to volunteer in safe and effective ways that bring hope and practical support to all in need. Activities include communicating with the elderly, shopping for and distribution of food as well as offering assistance to neighbours such as gardening and general maintenance.
Charity
From 26 keepy uppies to cycling 26km, the College community fully embraced the 2.6 Challenge. Take a look at what the PE department got up to here and find out more about what pupils, teacher and staff did to raise money for vital donations to charities such as MacMillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research, Save the Children, the NHS Covid-19 Appeal and Alzheimers UK.
Two Old Alleynians have been at the forefront of charitable COVID-related projects which have gained national attention. Harvest for Heroes is a wonderful initiative set up by Oliver Bailey OA, raising money to provide for the delivering of fresh fruit and vegetables to NHS staff at hospitals throughout the south east, and here is news of OA Nick Rusling’s 2.6 Challenge to offset some of the funds charities will have lost from the postponement of the London Marathon.
