Year 9 Open Afternoons

We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the College campus. The admissions team are always happy to talk to families on the phone and to answer any individual queries regarding the application process. Visits are primarily for families looking for entry to Year 9 in 2027 via deferred entry or late entry to Year 9 in 2025.

Dr Joe Spence, The Master, and Mr Sameer Tanna, Head of Middle School will be speaking at 2.25pm and afterwards our pupils will take you on a tour of the College. There will be light refreshments at the end and the admissions team will be able to answer individual questions. The events will finish by 4pm

Online Registration

For applicants sitting the Entrance Examinations in the UK.

Online registration for entry to Year 9 in 2027 (for boys in Year 6 at UK prep schools, applying for Deferred Entry) and in Year 9 in 2025 (for boys sitting the entrance examinations when they are in Year 8) is now open.

The Registration deadline for Deferred Entry in 2027 is Friday 27 September 2024, midday, and entry in 2025 is Monday 28 October 2024, midday.

The registration fee is £160 and is non-refundable.

To complete the online registration form you will need the following:

• Your son’s passport or birth certificate
• A recent photograph of your son
• Your son’s most recent academic school report
• Educational Psychologist report (if applicable)
• Details of any medical condition indicating examination concessions
• A debit or credit card to pay the non-refundable registration fee
• If your son is in receipt of the Pupil Premium, a letter from your current school confirming this

If your son is in receipt of the Pupil Premium, you will not need to pay a registration fee. Please complete the online registration form, tick the Pupil Premium box and upload a letter from your current school confirming this. Please complete the form up to the point of making payment and then call the admissions team ahead of submitting the form who will complete the registration process for you. To use our Admissions Portal to register for an event or submit a registration form for the first time you will need to set up a user account.

Existing users

If you have registered to attend an event since April 2024 or registered for your son to sit our examinations in the past you will already have created an account. Please sign in before continuing.

To complete a new registration form please select 'Add New Applicant'. If you are re-applying for the same son please do not edit his 'past application', instead select 'Add New Applicant'.

You will then find links to events and additional forms specific to your son's application in your 'Checklist'.

Entrance Examinations

The admissions test will be in three parts, which will last, in total, about 3 hours, including breaks during these tests.

• Part 1 and Part 2 will be online tests which include sections on Mathematics, English, reasoning and problem solving. Maths questions will cover the range of topics as set out in Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum.
• Part 3 will be a creative writing task which candidates will handwrite (or, if appropriate, type).

Selection

The offer of a place at the College is made on the basis of

• the candidate’s performance in the appropriate examination
• an interview
• a reference from the Head of the candidate’s present school
• and for Deferred Entry is also conditional on boys remaining at their current UK prep school until the end of Year 8

and is subject to the College’s Standard Terms and Conditions.

The Interview

Candidates who show promise in the entrance examinations are invited to attend an interview in January. Our aim is to provide a friendly atmosphere for the interview during which the candidate will be allowed the opportunity to give further evidence of his academic strengths and some indication of interests and abilities with which he might make a contribution to the general life of the College.

Access Arrangements in Entrance Examinations

Access Arrangements are pre-examination adjustments for candidates based on evidence of need and normal way of working. They can include, but are not limited to, extra time, supervised breaks and use of word processor.  Access Arrangements are reviewed by our Learning Support team and granted in line with JCQ regulations. To evidence a need and normal way of working, you will need to submit the following at time of application:

• a letter/report from CAMHS, a HPC registered psychologist, a medical consultant, a psychiatrist, a Speech and Language Therapist; or
• a letter/report from the Local Authority Specialist Service, Local Authority Sensory Impairment Service or Occupational Health Service; or
• a current EHCP
• We will also require a letter from the current school stating the pupil's normal way of working

The College needs this information so that it can assess a pupil’s particular needs and (if required) can consult with their parents about the adjustments which could reasonably be made to cater for those needs during the admissions process.

Please indicate requirements at time of registration. If there are any changes to requirements, please inform the Registrars no later than 10 days before the entrance examination.
