On Monday 24 April, DUCKS saw a stunning start to their creative curriculum theme for the term, Invention and Innovation.
The children were greeted with a giant ball run challenge on the sunny Key Stage 1 playground. The playground was filled with hundreds of balls and tubes of varying sizes with ramps, crates, and stands, gathered from a recycling centre and available for adaptation.
The challenge provided the children with a fun and rewarding opportunity to explore, build, problem-solve, collaborate, and think critically. Many questions were raised such as "what if," "how," and "why?" Marvelous minds were soon solving the problem of balls travelling at different speeds, balls getting stuck, and how to get balls past an obstacle.
The children's creativity and innovation didn't stop there. Year 1 created an irrigation system, while Year 2 developed colossal 3D mazes. The teachers and children can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer term will bring.
