Year 2 perform the Jungle Book Kids

Year 2 perform the Jungle Book Kids

It was with huge excitement that the Year 2 children took to the stage of the Edward Alleyn Theatre for their performance of this timeless classic on the Tuesday before half term.

It was as a truly memorable show: the children sang beautifully, bringing their enthusiasm and vocal skill to tunes such as I Wan'na Be Like You and The Bare Necessities. The dancing was similarly outstanding and the physical comedy of King Louie and his Monkeys, Colonel Hathi's Elephants  and the eager Vultures could not fail to enchant the audience. Shere Khan roared and stalked the stage with menace while Baloo and Mowgli struck up a delightful friendship. The 'Jungle'  chorus playfully danced and sang, springing into action during key scenes. Meanwhile, Bagheera the Panther and Wolf did their best to look after the headstrong Mowgli, helping him negotiate the risks posed by Kass the hypnotic, green-gloved snake. Finally, Shanti, a human child, encouraged Mowgli to make the move away from Jungle life to the resounding chorus of Year 2 voices declaring, ' You may belong in the village….but you always have a home in the jungle!!'

The show was a testament to the children's admirable commitment to the rehearsal process: carefully learning their lines, their cues and the many dance moves and lyrics. It has been a most wonderful way for the Year 2 pupils to bond, work together and develop confidence in public performance.
