Year 2 heads to Kew Gardens

Year 2 heads to Kew Gardens

Our trip complemented this term's 'Discovery' theme during which the Year 2 children have been deepening their understanding of the plants and their life cycles.

The trip offered a wide range of science-based learning opportunities for the children. They took part in workshops run by Kew experts and were intrigued to find out about the Weeping Beech: a tree that has branches sprouting from the ground like trunks. The children also learnt about the crucial part squirrels play in the life cycle of the oak tree. They loved visiting the world famous glass houses and were lucky enough to spot bunches of bananas growing in the tropical heat of the Palm House.

A delicious picnic lunch was enjoyed by all and, as a finale, the children delightedly explored the Children's Garden: a large exploratory area filled with slides, sandpits and an exciting 'high tree walk' built high up in the canopy of one of Kew's many magnificent trees.
