Reception’s fun-filled day at Godstone Farm

Reception’s fun-filled day at Godstone Farm

On Friday 13 June, Reception had an unforgettable adventure at Godstone Farm. A perfect sunny day of exploring, investigating, questioning and learning was experienced by all. The trip was packed with exciting, hands-on learning opportunities, giving our little learners a wonderful chance to connect with nature and animals in real life — bringing their classroom learning to life.

DUCKS children were excited to meet a very noisy flock of ducks and experience a duck talk and feeding session, learning all about these feathered friends before giving them some tasty treats.

A real highlight of the day was visiting the animal barn. The children were thrilled to stroke a one-week-old chick and even got the chance to gently touch an Australian bearded dragon – a big hit with the more adventurous among them. The excitement didn’t stop there — they also went pond dipping, exploring the watery habitat and spotting all sorts of wriggly creatures living below the surface.

But perhaps the biggest cheer of the day came during the pig race. The children lined up along the fence and cheered on their favourites — Salt and Pepper — in an energetic and dusty dash to the finish line. They were also lucky enough to witness sheep shearing, see tiny piglets, and meet a young foal.

This trip was not only great fun, but also a fantastic way to support the children’s learning in a rich, real-world context. At this age, learning through experience is key — and our visit to Godstone Farm did just that, sparking curiosity, confidence, and care for living things.
