As part of the Whole School Eco Week, at DUCKS, the children were immersed in learning about sustainability and the importance of protecting our environment.
As part of a cross-curricular approach, pupils across the Kindergarten and Infant School wrote their own eco pledges, reflecting on how they can make a difference in their daily lives. In Forest School, children explored eco-friendly materials, discovering practical ways to care for nature while enjoying outdoor learning and in our Art lessons, children were using recycled materials to create collages.
To conclude the week, the children took part in an eco-book swap, bringing in books from home to donate and exchanging them for new stories. Overseen by our Year 2 Sustainability Leaders, the event sparked meaningful conversations about recycling and reusing resources. Alongside this, the children were able to practice important maths skills such as counting the number of books they brought, as well as using simple addition and subtraction when exchanging them for new ones. Discussions linked closely to our school values of being unique, kind, and selfless. One child remarked, “I know that my friend will love this story, I will take it for them.”
The week ended with a whole-school assembly, led by our Year 2 Sustainability Leaders alongside Matthew, the Sustainability Prefect from the Senior School. Together, they reinforced the importance of caring for our planet and inspired younger pupils to continue making eco-conscious choices.
Eco Week was a wonderful celebration of learning, collaboration, and responsibility. By engaging in these activities, DUCKS children are not only deepening their understanding of sustainability but also preparing to become thoughtful, responsible citizens of the future.
