Students across the College, from DUCKS to the Senior School, celebrated International Women’s Day, recognising the talents and contributions of women across different spaces and industries. From assemblies to society-run talks, the week brought the College together for reflection and learning about the resilience and commitment many women demonstrate in breaking glass ceilings.
The week kicked off with an array of speakers: Rt Hon Dame Penny Mordaunt DBE PC delivering a talk to the Upper School, Liz Claydon - Global Head of Deal Advisory, Global Head of Life Sciences, KPMG International presenting to Year 12s, and the Head Girl team from JAGS collaborating with our Head of Years to discuss the female experience in the Middle School.
The Lower Hall was buzzing during Monday lunchtime, as FIDE Master Bodhana Sivanandan returned to the College to challenge teachers and students to a game of chess. Our assemblies concluded with Dr I. Stephanie Boyce, Honorary Professor of Law, KCL educating the Lower School and Year 9 using the motto she has used as a woman to achieve her goals, P.U.S.H.: Persevere Until Something Happens.
DUCKS started each day with a reflection on the life of an aspirational woman, while Junior school students led debates and took part in creative activities to honour the women they care about.
The various societies were the cornerstone of the week, acknowledging women in STEM and the arts.
The events and talks provided valuable opportunities for the students to deepen their understanding of how to give women a platform to thrive and allow women to gain a voice in places where doors might have been closed.
