At DUCKS, we strongly value the partnership between home and school, believing that through positive parental engagement we can achieve the best possible outcomes for our children. Alongside our open‑door policy, encouraging conversations with teachers at drop off and pick up, our regular parent‑teacher meetings and ongoing dialogue through online learning apps, we often host parental workshops to further promote the link between and home.
This week, we were delighted to host an Early Years Maths Workshop for parents, offering practical ideas for supporting children’s mathematical learning at home. The session opened with a discussion led by our Deputy Head, Mrs Lucy Shaw, on the importance of building a positive mindset around Maths. Parents explored how small, everyday interactions at home can consolidate the concepts children encounter in school.
Our Reception team then introduced a range of manipulatives used in today’s Maths lessons, including Unifix cubes, part-whole models, ten frames and Numicon. Parents had the opportunity to handle these resources and see first‑hand how they help children develop secure mathematical understanding.
It was a wonderful and informative evening, and we look forward to hosting more workshops in the future.
