The Edward Alleyn Theatre was recently filled with excitement as 50 musicians took to the stage for the annual House Electric competition. Each of the eight houses assembled a band to perform in front of a packed audience of friends, family, and this year’s adjudicator - guitarist Alex Bayly.
The evening kicked off in style, with Howard opening the competition with a solid and cohesive performance of Hotel California. Sidney got the crowd into it for YMCA, before settling into Raleigh’s endearing performance of Creep by Radiohead. Throughout the night, the standard of performance remained high, making the adjudicator’s task a difficult one. He offered thoughtful and encouraging feedback, praising both the musicianship and commitment on display.
One of the standout moments came from Drake, whose 10-piece band delivered an ambitious performance of Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. Ultimately, however, it was Grenville who claimed victory, impressing the adjudicator with a tight, cohesive and driving performance of Everlong by the Foo Fighters.
