Year 9 entry (13+)

Each academic year around 80 boys join the Middle School into Year 9 (13+).

In addition, 150 boys join the year group from our Lower School, making a total of around 230 boys. 50 of these places are given to boys in UK prep schools who sit entrance examinations when they are in Year 6. The remaining 30 places are given to boys who sit the entrance examinations when they are in Year 8.

Applying for a place

If you are interested in applying for a place in Year 9, we encourage you to begin the process by registering your son.

Academic, yes, but not elitist. A superb school for busy boys with inquiring minds.” - The Good Schools Guide

All candidates sitting for Year 9 Deferred Entry for September 2029 will sit their Entrance Examinations at Dulwich College on Tuesday 1 December 2026 using our own bespoke tests. We do not use the ISEB pre-test for Deferred Entry applicants.

Please see Entry Procedure and Practice Tests below for further information. Please note that candidates cannot apply for both Year 7 and for Year 9 Deferred Entry. The point of entry should be specified when completing the online Registration form, and it will not be possible to change this route after Friday 2 October 2026, the registration deadline for Deferred Entry 2029
