Olufemi ‘Femi’ Sofolarin (Sixth Form) was a team member of the Blackheath & Bromley Harriers Athletics Club that won the U20 National Finals of the UK Youth Development League (UKYDL) at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Sunday 3 September. The National Finals consisting of the top eight clubs in England, Scotland and Wales is the culmination of league meetings around the country.
Femi won a bronze medal in the A-String javelin with a new personal best of 50.85m, ranking him 10th in UK in his first year U20s, despite an injury break since April, gold in the B-String 110m Hurdles and gold running 3rd leg for the 4 x 100m relay squad. Blackheath & Bromley will now represent GB in the European Champion Clubs Cup in Spain in 2018.
On July 9 at the London Anniversary Diamond League Games held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium in Stratford, Femi ran 3rd leg for the Blackheath and Bromley 4 x 100m squad that came 2nd in a time of 42.3s in the invitational U20 relays. This was an experience allowing Femi to mix with international athletes in the warm-up area. Femi has also represented the Kent County Senior Men’s team running 1st leg in the winning 4 x 100m relay at the Southern inter-counties match.
