The 17th Thwaites Bach Competition took place in the Old Library on Thursday 21 September in the company of the Competition’s benefactor, Professor Sir Bryan Thwaites OA (1936-40), and was won by Lucas Miller for his performance of the Sarabande, Bourrées I & II & Gigue from Suite No. 3 in C, BWV 1009. Lasse Wendler was the runner-up with his performance of the Recitative Am Abend and Aria Mache dich from the St Matthew Passion, BWV 244. There were fourteen performances in all from twelve boys: Alex Cheung, William Good, George Good, Jude Hine, Derek Law, Ben Miller, Igor Mitich, John Pedersen, Yuki Suter and Darren Wei. The adjudicator was Mr Mark Williams, Informator Choristarum, Organist & Tutorial Fellow in Music Magdalen College, Oxford.
