Earlier in the year the BBC aired Melvyn Bragg on Class and Culture, a three part series in which the host explored the influence of class on culture in Britain during the century between 1911 and 2011. All three episodes in the series were produced by Archie Powell (79-88), who also directed the final instalment, which focused on class and culture between 1980 and the present day. Archie’s previous credits for the BBC include directing the 2009 documentary Being Alan Bennett and producing and directing the 2010 documentary George and Larry Lamb’s Parent Trip. Archie has also produced three episodes of The South Bank Show, which featured playwright Alan Bennett, filmmaker Michael Winterbottom and musician Mike Skinner of The Streets.
