Piers Torday gave a talk to the Year 5 and Year 6 boys and a reading from his debut book The Last Wild – a tale of a future world where animals are extinct and the hero has to try to save the remaining animals.

This week the Year 6 play went off with a bang. The boys transported the audience into far outer space aboard the US Starship Albatross.

On Monday 10 June 4H hosted a Year 3 and 4 cinema night in the Junior School Hall, which was soon ringing with laughter from the 87 boys who happily donated a pound to enjoy a showing of the hilarious Disney classic, Cool Runnings.

The third ever annual Junior Strings Festival held on Monday 3 June was an extremely successful event! 37 boys performed from Year 3 up to Year 6, playing violin, viola, cello, double bass and guitar, including the electric guitar for the first time, and the standard of playing was in general very high.

The Junior School Swimming Squad have continued to enjoy a successful season at recent trips to the LSSA and IAPS finals.

The first Junior School Open Concert this term was also the last concert Year 6 boys could play in and contained the inaugural spoken word performances by LAMDA boys (Joshua Cunningham-Barrett and Akhil Raghavan).

As part of ongoing investment into the College grounds, a new drainage system is being installed over the playing fields south of the Pavilion to address waterlogging problems and the subsoil and topsoil will be graded and levelled to produce superior playing surfaces for rugby, football and cricket.

First to head to the Outdoor Centre in Wales was 5B, accompanied by Miss Burrill, Mrs Greenaway and Mr Sullivan.

On Thursday 2 May Young Samurai author Chris Bradford spoke about his new Bodyguard series to a Great Hall packed with pupils from the Junior and Lower Schools and fellow fans from Kingsdale School.

Henry VIII turned the clocks back to the 16th Century when he paid a visit to the Year 4 boys in the Junior School on Monday 11 February circa 1540.
