Dulwich College Music

This short film highlights just some of the exciting and diverse range of musical opportunities at Dulwich. If you would like to be part of this, please contact the Director of Music via Mrs Miranda Humphreys humphreysm@dulwich.org.uk; we would be delighted to hear from you.

A blend of traditional and contemporary co-curricular performance activities enrich the cultural life of the College, and enhance the academic teaching of the department.  Our performance programme includes over 200 yearly concerts at leading London venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, St John's Smith Square, Cadogan Hall, Southwark Cathedral, Pizza Express Soho, and local venues in Dulwich. Competitions and Masterclasses feature each year and the College’s J.S. Bach Competition has enabled the boys to work with a number of eminent musicians including Andrew Nethsingha, Erich Gruenberg OBE, Sir Stephen Cleobury CBE, Vanessa Latarche, Thomas Trotter, Daniel Hyde and Ralph Allwood MBE. Sarah MacDonald will be the adjudicator in September 2023.

Musicians are well represented in the Junior Departments of the London conservatoires, London Schools Symphony Orchestra, NCO and NYO, and beyond, we have an enviable record of entry to higher education, including several scholarships to Oxbridge and Music Conservatoires.

We regularly receive applications from boys who wish to join the College purely for our musical provision, and a variety of Music Awards and Scholarships are offered to the most gifted. The Director of Music is always pleased to meet and advise parents and their sons who may be interested in these awards and opportunities.

The Music Department possesses string, woodwind and brass instruments which are available on loan for our beginner programmes, and a smaller collection of fine string instruments for our Music Award Holders upon request.
