Unlocking the hidden talents of our AS Level students was the prime objective in a day-long drawing workshop, held in the department this week. In response to the externally set theme ‘Covert and Obscured’ they explored, experimented and fought with materials in a sequence of strict time-based sessions while circling an expansive, multi-layered set-up constructed from polythene sheets, plastic piping, gilt-edged frames and still life stalwarts. Exhausting yes, but how rewarding, as each boy discovered something new and valuable, which will automatically feed into their examination portfolio. Be it scratching blindfold with pen and ink or wrestling with a stump of charcoal while wearing industrial gloves, it was just another day in the Art Department's long tradition of offering something of a real Art School experience to its students.
