Great Hall Concert

Posted: 27 May 2012

Wednesday evening saw a sultry summer concert in the Great Hall given by the department’s intermediate level musicians.

The Intermediate Wind Band opened the concert with the rousing Grand Canyon Overture and a more reflective Hymn to the Fallen by John Williams. The combined Intermediate String Ensemble and Alan Morgan Strings provided a subtle contrast of summer mood with enjoyable performances of Rameau’s Tambourins and a movement from Vaughan Williams’ Concerto Grosso. The Brass Sinfonia continued with energetic and lively performances of Great Movie Themes by John Williams and The Incredibles by Michael Giacchino. Finally, the Second Orchestra gave a lively and measured performance of the first movement of Schubert’s 5th Symphony and a vibrant Farandole by Bizet.

The warmly appreciative audience left with a spring in their step.
