Wednesday’s Brass lunchtime concert set the bar high for future concerts with an opening fanfare featuring no fewer than 43 of the College’s trumpeters performing Diabelli’s Heroic Fanfare. Following a sprightly rendition of Il est Bel et Bon by Benet Parker was a performance of Haydn’s 1796 Trumpet Concerto (the first ever concerto written for keyed trumpet). Taking a movement each, Jack Arnold, Benet Parker and Tomek Edwards did great justice to this important work. The concert continued with the College’s Brass Consort performing Gabrieli’s Sonata Pian e Forte and they brought the proceeding to a thunderous finale with Raymond Pemru’s Blues March.
