Musical news from the summer weeks must highlight the outstanding achievements of two Alleynians, Thomas Parfitt and James Orford. Thomas is Head Chorister in the College’s Chapel Choir and has just completed a run of performances singing Miles in a stunning production of Benjamin Britten’s masterpiece, The Turn of the Screw, at Glyndebourne during August. Reviews in the national press noted Thomas’s extraordinary understanding of Britten’s preeminent operatic role for a treble voice.
James is the College's Organ Scholar and whilst attending the Oundle International Organ Festival this July, won a prestigious prize giving him the opportunity to play an organ recital at Clare College, Cambridge on Sunday, 29 April 2012. This is a highly regarded achievement and augurs well for James’s future musical development.
