Environmental Policy

Environmental issues are a key theme to all aspects of work throughout the Centre. All visitors and staff are encouraged to have some regard for the environment they are in and what the possible implications of their actions may have on it.

Dulwich College Outdoor Centre accepts its obligation to comply with all relevant legislation and minimise its impact upon the environment. In recognition of this, the Centre has begun to implement an environmental system which focuses on:

  • Minimising waste
  • Monitoring of energy consumption
  • Considering the impact on the environment of its activities
  • A commitment to continual environmental improvements
  • Steadfast commitment to preventing pollution
  • Education on environmental issues
  • Promoting greener tourism

Regular checks and reviews are carried out to ensure the environmental management system remains effective.

Recently the Dulwich College Outdoor Centre entered into a Wales-wide environmental scheme for businesses; The Green Dragon Environmental Standard.

The Green Dragon Environmental Standard is unique to Wales and offers an environmental management system relevant to the specific needs of Welsh organisations. Appropriate for both large and small organisations, in any industry or business sector, it rewards action taken to achieve environmental improvements. Green Dragon consists of five levels and can be geared to a pace and ability to suit individual organisations, enabling them to demonstrate effective environmental management.” (‘Who makes a Big Difference to Your Business?’ Cambrian Printers 2003)

The Outdoor Centre has subsequently been awarded Level 2 of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard. There are benefits for the environment and for the Outdoor Centre; energy reduction, less waste production, and specific promotion for ‘Green' accommodation businesses etc.
