Although the conversion from a primary school in 1985 was not carried out with disabled users in mind there are many features and services on site that can assist our customers:

  • A high quality tarmac surface surrounds the Centre.
  • Parking available adjacent to the main entrance. There is a slight slope of no more than 5 degrees, assistance is available if required.
  • The main entrance is through double opening doors 163cm/ 64” wide, with one small step 2cm/ 1“ high over the door frame which leads in to a spacious hallway.
  • Some internal doors are controlled by magnetic catches.
  • Television, video, DVD & Sky TV all have remote controls.
  • Corridors are free from any clutter or furniture.
  • All internal areas of the building are well lit.
  • External, automatic lighting is present in the car park and at the main entrance.
  • Task lighting is available.
  • Assistance dogs are welcome.
  • Flexible seating throughout the Centre.
  • Public payphone on site. Mobile phone coverage is poor; however the Orange network is available in some areas.
  • Wi-Fi is available throughout the Centre.
  • Areas available for electric wheel chair charging.
  • Ground floor accommodation rooms are available, although they are not suitable for wheelchair users.
  • Accessible unisex toilet and shower located on ground floor includes:

    • outwards opening wide door
    • shower seat
    • grab rails
    • toilet hoist
    • raised toilet
    • low hand wash basin

Access to the upper floor is via two sets of stairs, one set has 14 steps (3 steps then 11 steps) with double handrails and a width of 80cm / 31”. The second stairway consists of 14 steps (6 steps, then 1 step, then 7 steps) this set has a single banister rail and is 94cm / 37” wide.
