The concept of The Laboratory, a new home for Science and a venue for the Arts, took shape in December 2011 with the appointment of Grimshaw Architects
to work with us on the design of a new landmark building for Dulwich College. It was our intention that this new building would benefit everyone associated with the College and be widely available, outside school hours and terms, for charitable and commercial use by the wider community.
We took possession of Phase 1 of The Laboratory in April 2015, and already it has been the site of hundreds of inspirational science lessons and of a number of events centered on the James Caird Hall, which now houses Shackleton’s iconic lifeboat. The building has exceeded all our expectations.
The pages on this section of our website contain more about The Laboratory's design
. You can also learn about the past
of Science at the College, as well as details of how you can help
us to complete this vital project.
Philanthropy has played a crucial role to date, with over £5m in donations and pledges received from all sections of the College community. We are very grateful to all who have supported The Laboratory and, as we look ahead to Phase 2 of construction, we would welcome your support.
There are numerous ways to give
