Inaugural CREST Awards

Dulwich College’s inaugural CREST Awards Ceremony was launched on Wednesday 10 May 2017. Presenting to an audience of parents, mentors (from industry and higher education) and staff, 24 Year 13 pupils gave viva-style summaries of their research projects that were designed, carried out and analysed in a chosen area of Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths and which represented over 70 hours of independent work. Each group produced a final report approaching undergraduate standard. We were delighted to welcome Neil Trevethan from the British Science Association, the organisation that independently assesses and accredits each CREST research project.

The theme of the evening was collaboration. We celebrated the pupils’ achievements with the help of their mentors and shared our vision for developing the CREST research programme with our partnership schools. From September we will be launching CREST as an inter-school society, through which students will form their own research groups based on common interests and aims. Meanwhile this year’s cohort of CREST Award students are hard at work pursuing their own projects with the support of mentors from the NHS, UCL, Birkbeck, King’s College, Imperial and private laboratories.
