New Head of Upper School

Posted: 15 May 2017

Mr Andrew Threadgould

Mr Andrew Threadgould has been appointed Dulwich College’s new Head of Upper School from Michaelmas 2017 following the appointment of Mr Richard Berlie as Vice Principal of Mander Portman Woodward (MPW).

Mr Threadgould joined Dulwich College in 1999 after teaching at Forest School and Ardingly College and following his graduation from Loughborough University in 1993 where he read Economics. During his career at Dulwich he has led the Economics Department (2005-2011), taught Politics and Mathematics, been a Day Housemaster in the Middle School and Master i/c Athletics. Most recently, he has been the College's Staff Tutor with responsibility for teacher development and training and related partnerships with other schools (notably the E-ACT City Heights Academy at Tulse Hill and the schools of the Southwark Teaching Schools Alliance).  Mr Threadgould has been an Upper School form tutor throughout his time at Dulwich, and has also written a number of Economics textbooks and presented educational research conducted through the International Boys' School Coalition.

On his appointment, Mr Threadgould commented: "I am delighted to be taking over as Head of Upper School at this exciting time: the return to linear A levels will create even greater opportunities for engaging teaching and Free Learning (learning beyond the curriculum), and the new A Level Plus courses, developed alongside a revitalised Wellbeing programme, will help prepare Alleynians for study and work in the twenty-first century. I am passionate about adopting the best ideas from research and practice in other schools to ensure every Upper School pupil is challenged and inspired to make the most of their talents in the classroom and beyond."

Mr Threadgould will be supported by Mr Dan Stanley in the role of Deputy Head of Upper School. Mr Stanley, a former Dulwich teacher, re-joins the College from his position as Deputy Head of Sixth Form at Whitgift (2009-17).

Mr Elliot Read, currently Deputy Head of Upper School, will take up a new role within the College. Mr Read will be supporting the Deputy Master Pastoral, Mrs Angel, in her work and takes on the position of Assistant Head Pastoral.

News of other appointments for Michaelmas 2017 will be made at the beginning of the new academic year.
